Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion | About Chrysalis

Chrysalis leadership recognizes that organization-wide investments in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices lead to improved outcomes for our clients.

In 2016, when we developed our 2017-2021 Strategic Plan, we incorporated goals for increased gender and racial/ethnic diversity on our Board in order to be more representative of the clients we serve. Facilitated by outside consultants, we held organization-wide discussions to assess staff concerns regarding diversity, developed our Vision & Values statements, and engaged an internal action planning committee to outline a three-year DEI plan, which lists the following goals:

1. Create opportunities for a more informed and inclusive culture, so that staff feel empowered to bring their full selves to work.

2. Cultivate a diverse organizational leadership team that is committed to and trained on the organizational value of equity and inclusion.

3. Revise the processes and policies of recruitment and selection of staff and volunteers to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization.

Our Vision & Values

Values state what is important to us, serve as our guiding principles, and form the foundation for our culture. They tell us who we are and who we aspire to be. At Chrysalis, these values help us identify the specific capabilities needed in our staff and volunteers and how we should serve our community.

Integrity

We envision a community in which everyone has the opportunity to work and thrive.

As we take strides toward achieving the key benchmarks outlined in our DEI plan with the guidance of an internal committee and continued engagement with outside advisors, we also remain flexible to adapting our approach as new strategies and best practices for this work continue to evolve.

Our Commitment is Ongoing and Evolving

Considering the social and racial justice issues that continue to permeate our country, Chrysalis’ leadership and Board have also re-committed to increasing our efforts to be anti-racist. Actions taken include holding space for staff and Board to have difficult conversations, being direct about the impact of systemic racism on our clients and community in our external communications, re-examining our organizational purchasing power to support local businesses owned and operated by people of color, creating space for staff affinity groups, and expanding Board diversity goals and educational efforts.
